ABOUT CHELSEA FOSS
Originally, I'm from Michigan, but I have lived in LA and now NYC. I was a competitive gymnast for about 15 years. When you reach a certain level or age in the sport, your two choices are to train even hard enough to make the Olympics, or quit. I chose the second, and that's when my fitness journey began. I found The Bar Method when I was going to college in Los Angeles, and things started progressing from there.
As an instructor at Bar Method, one of the best parts of the workout is, hands down, the safety aspect of the exercises. The method is constantly being reworked, but the main focus for every exercise and stretch is safety. The company enlists the help of physical therapists to ensure nothing will be harmful to the body. I can't speak for barre exercise as a whole, but as for The Bar Method, if you take class 3-5 classes a week, consistently, you will see toned arms, great posture, flatter abs, a lifted seat, and tapered thighs.
My personal objective as an instructor is, something I check myself on frequently, to keep my classes authentic and fresh. My goal for each class, aside from giving my students a good workout, is to be a motivator. There are so many different personalities that walk into class and different reasons for coming, that I have to be able to adapt and be able to connect genuinely with each student in 60 minutes.

Honestly, my inspiration comes from all of my students. The fact that they not only show up, but work hard, is the most inspiring and humbling experience. I am coming up on my 2 year anniversary! In my opinion, a healthy lifestyle means making healthy choices because you love your body, not because you hate it.
