Meet & Love: Jenn Seracuse

Q & A's with Jenn Seracuse

Jenn Seracuse is Director of Pilates at FLEX Studios in New York City. She grew up singing and dancing, and discovered Pilates while studying for her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theater. After performing in NYC and touring around the country, she paused and underwent colon resection surgery due to her Crohn's Disease. Using Pilates to rehabilitate and cope with the surgery, she fell even more in love with it and is now stronger and healthier than ever!

Pilates became not only body altering, but also life-altering for Jenn when she realized her passion for doing translated into a passion for teaching. This ultimately led to a transition from Musical Theater to a successful career in fitness, and she is now the Director of Pilates at FLEX Studios. So if you ever want to try a Pilates class in the city, Jenn is your Girl!

Green juice or smoothie?

Best place in the world is...

Home with my hubby and my cats

Three words that describe you:

Loyal, Loving, Passionate

Most embarrassing thing that happened to you:

I have a fairly good track record for saying stupid things around or to famous people. Maybe what felt like the most mortifying was back when I first moved to the city and was bartending and Paul Rudd came into the bar I worked at. I have a MAJOR crush on Paul Rudd and was not prepared for how I would behave if I ever saw him in person. I lost my mind and proceeded to very obviously cover my mouth with my hand and stage whisper (aka say very loudly and not discretely at all) “Is that PAUL RUDD?!?!” to my coworker who was right next to him. To which he replied… “Yes... Stop it.” I turned bright red and basically ran to the other end of the bar. Needless to say, Paul Rudd and I have not hung out since.

What does Love mean to you?

“And still, after all this time, the Sun has never said to the Earth, ‘You owe me.’ Look what happens with love like that. It lights up the sky. -Rumi

Whats your favorite thing to do?

Cook, eat and drink with good people

What is your ultimate goal/dream?

I’m pretty much living it. I have an amazing job in the greatest city in the world, doing something I love, and helping people live their best lives... from my clients to my team of instructors. I have a partner who loves, supports and challenges me, making me want to be the best version of myself. Not to mention a kick ass support system of family and friends. I suppose if I have to reach for more, I would love to reach even more people nationally and even globally in fitness. That would be amazing!

The moment you knew you wanted a fitness/wellness lifestyle...

I have Crohn’s Disease and a major flare up sidelined me from my life as a performer and I ended up having surgery 6 years ago. I realized that the reason I was able to get back on my feet so quickly and come back stronger than ever was Pilates and I wanted to share that with other people. I also knew that keeping myself as strong and healthy as possible was important so that I could manage my Crohn’s and hopefully avoid more surgery. A life and career in fitness provides me that opportunity. I have been symptom and medication free since and am in the best health and shape I have been in my life.

Do you play sports?

No, but I am a HUGE football fan. Denver Broncos all the way! If you could be anything in the world what would it be and why? A mom. It may seem a little simple of an answer to such a big question, but from what I hear it’s a joy unlike any other.

Before I die I want to…

Visit Sicily where my Dad’s family is from.

Your post workout go to snack or fav food to make?

I make a mean banana almond ginger spinach smoothie. It’s my go to for early mornings. And this is not necessary aligned with fitness... but I make the best chocolate chip cookies ever. It’s all about balance right??

Favorite workout brand or favorite article of clothing/fitness gadget...

There are so many awesome brands out right now it’s hard to pick just one!! Some of my faves are Lululemon, Outdoor Voices, Koral, ALO Yoga, Phat Buddha, and Reebok (they recently did a street art print collaboration with BANDIER that is amazing!). As far gadgets, I am obsessed with my PROPS gloves and BLOCH studio shoes for taking class on the FLEXformer. They provide the perfect amount of support and grip.

Thank you Jenn for your open thoughts.
