Cleansing Detox Cooler + Benefits of Herbal Tea
Herbal teas are one of the easiest ways to incorporate some holistic nutrition into your life. In the winter, I will frequently drink as many as 5-6 cups of tea in one day! Even in the summer, I can’t break my hot tea habit. There are teas for more energy, throat health, an immune system boost, clear skin, better digestion, nighttime relaxation, and anti-anxiety just to name a few. Not to mention any of the many possible add-ins that boost your nutritional benefit:
Ginger - highly potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Soothes nausea.
Turmeric - good for heart and brain health. Powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory.
Raw apple cider vinegar - can improve diabetes and control blood pressure. Contains probiotics and enzymes.
Fresh lemon - boosts energy, detoxes the body, contains vitamin C.
Manuka honey - soothes a sore throat, eases digestion, anti-bacterial, high enzyme activity.
While I have no problem fixing myself a few hot cups of tea each day in the summer, I try to have the foresight to prep a big cooler of iced tea any time I am hosting guests at my place. All of the nutritional benefits are the same, but the refreshing factor increases tenfold! Cleansing Detox Cooler
Cayenne-maple syrup-lemonade has a longstanding reputation as being good for your health. Mixing it with mint tea is like a holistically-minded spin on an Arnold Palmer. The classic combination has been made even more anti-inflammatory with an infusion of turmeric and ginger.
Warning: you WILL want to drink this every day....
4 quarts water
4 mint tea bags
¼ inch piece of turmeric, peeled and grated
¼ inch piece of ginger, peeled and grated
¼ cup maple syrup
½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
Juice of 4 fresh lemons
¼ cup fresh mint leaves
In a large stockpot, bring 4 quarts of water to a boil over high heat. Remove the water from heat, and add tea bags, grated turmeric, and grated ginger to the water. Let aromatics steep for 5-15 minutes depending on desired strength of cooler. Pour tea through a fine mesh strainer and into a large pitcher. Add maple syrup, cayenne pepper (if using), lemon juice, and mint leaves. Whisk into thoroughly combined. Refrigerate for several hours until chilled.
